Dental crowns, or caps, are used to rebuild and cover damaged teeth with materials that resemble one’s natural teeth in strength and comfort. At CV Dental Care, dental crowns are designed and crafted with consideration of our patients’ lifestyle, overall health of the mouth and surrounding teeth, bite, and skin tone. With proper care and good oral hygiene, the life of a crown can range from 5 to 15 years. Our goal is to provide treatments that are used for long lasting correction of major dental problems.
Key Benefits of Dental Crowns:
Dental crowns can be used to restore a single tooth, multiple teeth and even the entire mouth, or in conjunction of dental implants.
- Even badly broken teeth can be replaced with dental crowns
- Missing teeth can also be replaced with dental crowns
- Dental crowns help slow down existing damage by providing support to cracked or chipped teeth
- Dental crowns help restore chewing and proper bite
- Dental crowns protect and support a tooth after a very large filling or root canal treatment
- Dental crowns hold a dental bridge or other prosthetic device in place
How Long Does it Take to Fit a Dental Crown?
As with most restorative methods, dental crowns also require at least two visits to the dentist. On the first visit, you’ll get an injection of anesthesia, after which your dentist will remove any decay and shape the tooth. An impression is then taken, and a temporary cap put on the tooth.
A couple of weeks later, at your second appointment, you’ll have the temporary cap removed, and a permanent restoration put on.
Most major dental problems caused through accidents, diseases, wear and tear can be corrected using crown and bridgework. The dental materials used in these repairs are either high-grade porcelain or porcelain bonded to gold. A higher strength of the porcelain and gold materials is recommended to treat the most serious of dental problems. Placing crowns on the back teeth relieves the pain that is usually due to hairline cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. For the front teeth, porcelain crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not. In teeth with root canal fillings, crowns can prevent breakage.
At CV Dental Care, we believe that preserving the tooth structure is crucial to the longevity of your teeth and strive to create the highest quality restorations that last several years, and, with a proper oral hygiene for your lifetime.
