An immediate denture is one that is fabricated prior to the natural teeth extraction and inserted into the mouth immediately following the extraction procedure. An immediate denture may be complete (full) or partial.
While having immediate dentures placed in the mouth right after the surgery may seem odd, it helps with the healing process a great deal:
– it helps control the post-surgical swelling and should be worn without removing for 3 days
– it prevents harmful bacteria from entering the wounds and causing an infection
– it allows the patient to feel confident while interacting with others
– it helps the patient re-establish the speech pattern ahead of time before the permanent dentures are placed
– it helps preserve, maintain, and support the soft tissue and contours of the face during the healing process
– immediate dentures can look very good and improve patient’s look and smile
– it helps process (chew) the soft food, aiding the digestive system
While your dentist and the dental lab will strive to make a perfect fit for your immediate dentures, some minor adjustments may be required, because of the unpredictability of the post-surgical bone reshaping and soft tissue shrinkage. Since the original impressions for an immediate denture are taken before the removal of the teeth, a soft temporary reline material may be used to refit your denture, if needed, during the healing process. It takes up to six months for the tissue to heal completely and finalize the permanent dentures.
Wearing an immediate denture may seem like a challenge and requires patience. The tong getting used to the “bulky” teeth, the feeling of not having adequate room inside the mouth, practicing certain sounds, irritable gums, difficulty chewing, and not being able to eat your favorite foods—this is to be expected during the healing process.
Our friendly staff at CV Dental care will answer all your questions and find the best possible solutions to make your smile perfect.
Computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology has been revolutionizing many industries, including dentistry. Remember when it used to take two separate appointments to get a dental crown? Even just a few years ago, patients had to endure mouthfuls of messy impression materials and wearing temporaries for weeks at a time. Now, with our E4D Dentist® system, it is all a thing of the past!
Our doctors can now complete beautiful restorations like crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers in-office, in only one appointment.
Benefits for our patients:
Our state-of-the-art system allows Drs. Bigler, Rassam, Standage, Barela, Garlick and Weir to replace conventional impression methods with a clean, fast digital scan that is obtained in just a few minutes through a series of photographic images taken in the mouth. Combining this scanned data with our advanced software, we’re able to design a custom, permanent restoration. A milling unit then fabricates your restorative design quickly and conveniently, right in our dental office.
Your final result is a natural-looking restoration of superior strength that perfectly matches the surrounding teeth, making your crown, veneer, or filling virtually undetectable. The elimination of impressions, temporaries, and second appointments enhances the entire dental experience for our patients. As an added bonus, many of our patients love watching their new tooth come to life in the milling unit right in front of their eyes!
